Henslow's Tayloria - Tote bag
Henslow's Tayloria - Tote bag
Whipple Museum of the History of Science
John Stevens Henslow, Tayloria, c. 1840
John Stevens Henslow (1796 - 1861) held the title of Professor of Botany at the University of Cambridge for 36 years. This unusual tote bag features the remarkable image Tayloria, a species of moss depicted in microscopic detail and resembling an extraordinary creation from the world of science fiction. Using a powerful microscope, Henslow prepared a series of studies such as this one to illustrate his popular lectures. An extensive collection of these teaching charts are held in the Whipple Museum of the History of Science.
