These statement stud earrings feature a design inspired by a coin from the collection of The Fitzwilliam Museum: an 1897 penny which was later stamped by the Suffragettes with the motto VOTES FOR WOMEN. Countermarking coins has been used throughout history as a form of protest and as a means of publicising political causes. 

The earrings and matching necklace were designed in collaboration with the Fair Trade company Just Trade, and made by women working as part of the Flowering Desert Project in India. Flowering Desert provides support and refuge for vulnerable women and children, and regular, fairly paid job opportunities for women in Southern India.
