John Stevens Henslow, Fontinalis, c. 1840

Combining science and art, the handmade cushions in our Henslow range make the perfect gift for those with an eye for the unusual. Henslow (1796 - 1861) spent much of his career as Professor of Botany at the University of Cambridge, revitalising the subject and inspiring many students of the natural sciences, including a young Charles Darwin. Based upon one of Henslow's teaching charts, Fontinalis depicts the tiniest details of an aquatic moss and was created with the assistance of a powerful microscope.

The Whipple Museum of the History of Sciences has an extensive collection of Henslow's botanical charts. Explore the rest of our Henslow range to find more cushions, prints, tote bags, and stationery.
