Pauline Girardin, Spray of Lilac
A beautifully coloured study of lilac flowers in watercolour and bodycolour on vellum by French artist Pauline Girardin (b. 1818). Girardin studied under her father, himself a painter of landscapes and genre scenes, and under the renowned botanical artist Pierre-Joseph Redouté in the later years of his life. This artwork was gifted to The Fitzwilliam Museum as part of the Broughton bequest in 1973.
