Paul-Cèsar Helleu, Maternite

Sympathetic study in chalk of a mother and her baby cheek to cheek, by French artist Helleu (1859-1927). Although perhaps best known for his pastel and oil portraits of the stylish women of the belle epoque, he also made several intimate studies of his wife Alice, and their child.
