Flemish painter Joris van Son is known for his opulent still life paintings in oils, and Still Life with a Lobster is a fine example of his work. Depicting a luxurious banquet display overflowing with rich and exotic produce, it creates a dramatic and impressive scene on this melamine serving tray.
A matching chopping board featuring a detail of the chalice with fruit is also available.
Held in collection of the Fitzwilliam Museum, bequeathed in 1912 by Charles Brinsley Marlay.
