The Macclesfield Psalter, A rabbit and hound playing an organ (detail), c. 1330

The Macclesfield Psalter, a 12th century illuminated prayer book, was acquired by The Fitzwilliam Museum in 2005 after a huge public appeal and with assistance from The Art Fund. It is notable for its unusual marginalia, featuring animals involved in human activities and other grotesque and mischievous creatures.
