Cambridge University celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2009. To mark the occasion, beloved British illustrator Quentin Blake was asked to produce a frieze to commemorate some of the university's most notable alumni. In 1953 Crick and Watson announced their discovery of 'the secret of life' in the Eagle pub in Cambridge; the two scientists are depicted in Blake's illustration with a giant double helix of DNA. They are joined by Franklin, whose photography was instrumental in their breakthrough.
