Edgar Degas, selected artworks on the theme of ballet dancers.
French artist Edgar Degas (1834 - 1817) devoted much of his career to exploring the ways in which movement could be expressed through the static mediums of paint, pastels, and bronze sculpture. The study and depiction of ballerinas enabled this exploration, and the theme became one of his favourite subjects with dancers represented over and over again in his oeuvre. This notecard pack includes:
Dancers in Violet Dresses, Arms Raised, c. 1895-98, pastel and chalk (cover image)
Dancer Fastening her Shoe, c. 1888, etching
